Current Teaching Interests

  • Applying instructional technology to economic development, research / service activities related to pre-technical training, literacy, and skills enhancement for smaller companies in the Detroit area.
  • Specializes in needs assessment, technical training strategy, and the impacts of technology deployment on work force issues with an emphasis on small and medium-sized manufacturers.

Key Publications

He has written many publications in the human performance and training areas, especially training evaluation, including a monograph, Evaluating Corporate Training.

His most recent book, The Workplace Literacy Primer (HRD Press, 1990, with W. J. Rothwell), uses a performance technology approach to examining and developing literacy interventions.

With the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, he produced a reference manual and workshop on best practice needs assessment tools and processes for small manufacturing service providers.

Key Professional Service Activities

Manages two multi-million dollar projects in Workplace Education — one funded by the US Dept. of Education and one part of Detroit's Empowerment Zone.

He was a team leader for manufacturing assessment at the Midwest Manufacturing Technology Center in Ann Arbor.

Formerly he was at the University of Illinois for 17 years where he developed a graduate program in Human Resource Development.
