Current/Future Programs


The following formal faculty and student exchange programs are either already arranged or will be arranged this year. Memoranda of Agreements are completed or will be completed this year for each of the programs.


WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY AND BLUEFIELDS INDIAN AND CARRIBEAN UNIVERSITY (BLUEFIELDS, NICARAGUA)

This program will assist in the training of University Instructors for the BICU University Program. The university is embarking on a bi-lingual education program that will enhance the skills of its faculty. The WSU College of Education will assist BICU in the development and training phases of the program. This is in collaboration with the Wayne State University Admissions Department. 


WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY AND UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL de EDUCACION A DISTNCIA (MADRID, SPAIN)

This program enables faculty from UNED and WSU to exchange faculty for a short period of one to three weeks. Faculty will be matchedby their expertise to collaborate on research and do lectures for students and faculty. This program also enables WSU to utilize the expertise of UNED faculty for the WSU Study Abroad Program at the WSU Madrid Center in Madrid, Spain.


WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY AND UNIVERSIDAD AUTONOMA de MADRID (MADRID, SPAIN)

This program enables 1-2 students from UAM and WSU to attend each other’s university for one year or one semester. UAM also will facilitate an education program for students in the WSU Study Abroad Program at the WSU Madrid Center in Madrid, Spain.This program enables 1-2 faculty from UAM and UNED to exchange faculty for a short period of one to three weeks. Faculty will be matched by their expertise to collaborate on research and do lectures for students and faculty.


WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND CIENCIA SOCIALES (SEVILLE, SPAIN)

Individual Faculty from each university will help facilitate student and faculty development for short periods of time. Possible collaborative research and teaching will be explored.


CANADIAN STUDENT TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (ONTARIO, CANADA) 

This program enables students from Ontario, Canada to attend the College of Education at WSU and obtain teacher certification in Michigan and Ontario.


CHINESE GLOBAL EDUCATION CONSORTIUM 

The Global Education Consortium located in Beijing, China and the College of Education at WSU is currently discussing the establishment of a Chinese Language and Culture foreign language teaching certification/endorsement program for main land Chinese students attending WSU. This program will train Chinese nationals as instructors of Chinese for American schools, colleges and universities as well as the private sector.


Confucius Institute at WSU in Collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Education

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will establish a Confucius Institute at Wayne State University.  The Confucius Institute will develop a partnership with Wayne State's Professional Division, which provides practical solutions to business challenges through executive education and consulting, to create specialized training programs that meet the diverse needs of citizens of cosmopolitan Detroit.  Furthermore, the Confucius institute will play an important role in collaborating with the College of Education to develop a K-12 Chinese Language and Culture teacher certification/endorsement teacher preparation program. The College of Education Language Education Department is presently working in collaboration with the Department of Near East and Asian Studies Chinese Program to develop a K-12 Chinese Language and Culture experimental teacher     certification/endorsement program. One of the goals of this program aims at providing a new channel for training native speakers of Mandarin as teachers of Chinese as foreign language for Michigan schools.


                    

Previous Formal Programs


MKOBA TEACHERS COLLEGE (Gweru, Zimbabwe) AND THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AT WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY 

This program enabled three faculty members from Mkoba Teachers College to obtain a PhD. Degree at WSU. It also provided in-service opportunities in Zimbabwe for 4 Wayne State University Faculty. 


ETHIOPIAN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS AND WSU FACULTY EXCHANGE PROGRAM 

Over a 3-year period, WSU Faculty at WSU provided 12 Ethiopian Early Childhood educators in-service training. Five WSU Faculty attended an intense Ethiopian Education Early Childhood Workshop in Israel in collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
